Upcoming Practice Network Meetings: Measurement & CommunityOT

CAOT-BC Community OT Practice Network Meeting: March 6, 2017

Topic: BrainFX Presented by Tracy Milner

Frustrated with your current assessment tools missing more mild to moderate dysfunction from the spectrum of brain disorders? Occupational Therapists Tracy Milner and Heather Condello were too!  They were finding that they could observe dysfunction that was not being captured by their standardized paper and pencil tools. So they founded BrainFx and have developed a tablet-based, assessment platform to measure neurofunction, specifically focusing on 30 cognitive skills, along with some physical and sensory skills that can often confound cognitive performance. BrainFx currently has two assessments: BrainFx 360, a comprehensive, 90 minute version, to assist in treatment planning, and now BrainFx Screen, a ten minute assessment to help set baselines and assist in determining whether further assessment is needed. Join the webinar to learn about how the BrainFx Platform was developed, its validation to date, the assessment and its reporting and how it may benefit your practice. Also, learn about BrainFx’s Living Brain Bank and how it is working to accelerate neuroscience research. Applicable client populations can include: concussion/brain injury, stroke, mental illness, dementia, childhood disorders (ADD, learning disability, higher end of ASD), and other neurodegenerative or chronic diseases.

This meeting will take place by webinar. Registration is required to participate.

Time: 12:00pm – 1:00pm Pacific Time

CAOT-BC Measurement Practice Network Meeting: February 21, 2017

Topic: Measurement is HARD. Where do you begin? Important aspects to consider!

Measurement is an important concept that is often overlooked. As occupational therapists we use important and valuable tools, to help guide future treatments and determine current functioning. It is important we continue to build on our assessment knowledge to recognize the manner we use instruments and what strengths and weaknesses exist.

After two successful years of running the Measurement Practice Network join us for more measurement talk. We need YOU to share your perspectives and ask questions!

The purpose of this Practice Network is education and discussions on the topic of measurement for occupational therapists. This Practice Network will provide you with greater skills to better evaluate assessments and tests. By regularly attending this Practice Network, you will be able to better appraise instruments and understand what critical appraisal means. This Practice Network will not tell you what assessment or tool is best for a given population or client, BUT it will give you additional skills to become stronger at appraising tools, networking and finding resources. Join us to dialogue about this important and difficult topic, hear from other OTs, and continue to make our profession stronger.

This meeting will take place by teleconference. Registration is required to participate.
